8 Days Mountain Living Yoga Retreat in Tuscany, Italy

Asana HTV promise you a week of rural Italian living in 'The land where time stands still' - Garfagnana, Tuscany's best kept secret, in the province of Lucca. This, combined with Hatha, and Vinyasa flow yoga with an emphasis on well being, fun and comraderie, rather than on physical stamina, offers you an incredible opportunity to slow down, and reconnect with the land, and yourself.

Daily Yoga

The yoga programme that we have selected for you is a combination of traditional Hatha yoga with Vinyasa or flow Yoga. The main difference between traditional Hatha and Vinyasa or flow Yoga is the amount of time spent in each pose. Vinyasa yoga is a faster paced type of Yoga in that co-ordinated breath brings you swiftly from one pose to the next. This form of yoga has been embraced by the West in recent years possibly because Western yoga gives a lot of importance to the physical and mental benefits of the practice. The more traditional Hatha yoga embraces stillness even though it can also be strenuous in its own right and sees the goal of yoga as more spiritual rather than physical or mental. Our special combination yoga class strengthens the body while at the same time rendering it more flexible, relaxes the mind by slowing down the incessant internal chatter, promotes better breathing patterns as the flow of postures are carefully co-ordinated with the breath. For those seeking a deeper/more spiritual practice, both the more meditative aspects of the class as well as our very special location close to the river Ganges, enhance a sense of inner peace and stillness.

The retreat offers healthy, but delicious, Italian food coming from their local mountain, and forest, which includes local specialities such as chestnuts, porcini mushrooms, and spelt products. They offer light pre-yoga breakfast snacks (herbal teas, good, strong coffee for the addicts, homemade muesli, fruit, and yoghurt). For brunch, you will enjoy buffet consisting of delicious vegetarian homecooked food.

During dinner, you will be offered delicious vegetarian homecooked food. One of their evening meals will be cooked in a cauldron in the forest (weather permitting), and another evening meals will be Indian ayurvedic style. They offer you pizza (after a fifteen minute walk under the stars) at their local village pizzeria on one of the evenings. All meals are organic, and local as much as possible.

This retreat will take place in Tuscany, Italy. Villa Prunecchio is a restored farmhouse perched above the Garfagnana valley in the province of Lucca, with southern aspect, and stunning views of the surrounding mountains.

This place has to be seen and felt to be believed. The view and sunny aspect are magnificent but it is only after a while you tune into the various sounds, and sights the immediate vicinity has to offer: crickets, wild boar, deer, cuckoos, owls, woodpeckers, spades, axes, scythes. Cars cannot come down to the hamlet which makes it stand apart in its old worldliness.

Situated in the tiny hamlet of Prunecchio, and just a 15 minute walk to the village of Chiozza, the house is a haven for those in search of peace, and tranquility in a gorgeous Tuscan setting. Several walking routes from the house will take you along ancient mule tracks to medieval bridges, and villages, through chestnut forests, and way marked trails.
